First Use the pattern to drill 1/16" pilot holes

Drill out the holes for the 6-32 screws

Mount the plate on the jig clamped up in the lathe

Clamp the hole saw in the chuck mounted in the tail stock. Note that I later removed the center drill from the hole saw.

Proceed to cut out the center of the grid plate

No problem at all.

Make a cut with the boring bar and measure the hole.

Adjust the cross slide to cut the remainder of the hole. Also cut any lip needed if the material is over 0.060" thick.

Minimum tool change and minimum trouble. Saves time and effort.
